Acknowledgements on Continued Wiki Instability

This is a follow up to our previous post about Cargo being disabled.

Hello, we've noticed that Sekaipedia has gotten more unusable over the past week following Cargo being disabled. This includes pages not loading, pages with broken layouts, and images being missing. This is a culmination of unfortunate coincidences:

  • Semantic MediaWiki being enabled, a possible incorrect setup?
    • Possibly causes 503s and broken layouts
  • Hardware issue on one of the servers
    • Causes images to not load

For the most update to date info on the status of the Cargo and disk issue, check out Miraheze's SRE noticeboard. There is a possibility of an additional cause for the 503s not related to Semantic MediaWiki, but we do not know the cause.

Because of these issues, we may not have the most update to date game information at this time. However, even with the downtime we still have plans to bring the wiki back to a state before Cargo being disabled as close as possible.

Moving forward

We have chosen Semantic MediaWiki as our Cargo replacement. Currently, we are figuring out the migration details so our data tables will remain disabled for now. Our goal is to migrate data in the following order:

  1. Songs
  2. Cards
  3. Events
  4. Gachas
  5. Costumes
  6. Song versions
We are still exploring the capabilities of Semantic MediaWiki and hope to bring back our data tables. Here's a proof of concept for our song data list, prior to the mass 503 errors.

There is barely any formatting, but it does show all the data without us having to manually update them, just like before. Ideally, we want to have all of our data lists back before taking the time to format them. Once we're able to have solid proofs of concept for each type of data, we'll be bringing back the tables and the database pages (e.g. Database:Songs) one by one.

Closing remarks

In light of the current situation, we've created our first feedback form to get more insight on how to better serve our readers. Please consider taking a few minutes to fill it out so we can make decisions that better the site.

We also apologize for any inconvenience; we know it's frustrating not having access to the wiki (we feel the same as well). Please be patient as we try to get the wiki back to a more stable and contentful state. The timeline is uncertain.
